6 immigration officers honoured for rejecting GHC25,000 bribe
The honoured Officers on August 1, intercepted 1,950 bags of NPK Fertilizers meant for the Planting for Food and Jobs programme at Fielmon, an unapproved route, at the Ghana – Burkina Faso border in the Upper West Region.
They declined an inducement offer of GH¢25,000 offered by the smugglers.
The Officers include the Hamile Sector Commander, Chief Superintendent Felix Agyeman-Bosompem, Assistant Superintendent Razak Mohammed and Inspector Prince Osei Bonsu. The rest are Assistant Inspector Benjamin Duah, Immigration Control Officer (ICO) Godfred Amponsah and Assistant Immigration Control Officer 1 (AICO I) Maurice Logochura.
Presenting the awards to the Officers, the CGI commended the Officers for acting swiftly to the call of the informant and for refusing to be enticed with money. This he said, was a mark of integrity especially when the needs of man were endless and resources were increasingly scarce.
“It speaks well of you to have rejected such huge sum of money, GH¢25,000.00, despite your own economic challenges,” he noted.
Mr. Asuah Takyi added: “You have placed the interest of the nation first, and this shows a high sense of patriotism and I encourage all Officers to emulate this good deed.”
He explained that the certificates and plaques were being given to them for posterity sake. “It is not just a paper but something your children will look on and be proud of you,” he said.
The CGI reassured the Officers at the durbar that they would soon bear arms to enable them to confront border crimes with the needed ruthlessness.
The Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) in-Charge of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Judith Dzokoto-Lomoh was elated when presenting one of the awards to the Officers and said “they were not led into temptation but were delivered from it.”
The DCG in-charge of Legal, Research and Monitoring, Baaba Asare, urged them to keep up the good work, and that, the honour done them should inspire them to do more. “This is a good example for others in similar position to emulate,” she stated.
The DCG in-charge of Command Post and Operations, Laud Kwesi Affrifah was full of praise for the Officers and added, it was heartwarming President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his recent tour of the Upper West Region acknowledged the efforts of the Service.
They were presented with a certificate, undisclosed amount of money and a plaque each by the CGI, Deputy Comptroller-Generals, the Head of Operations, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Isaac Luortey and the Head of Administration, DCOI Maud Anima Quainoo.

She said:
“I feel like it’s coming too late but I appreciate the fact that he’s apologising and he’s clearing the air. Cos I remember how when it started, everybody was …attacking me.”
“I have no idea why they’ll always chose to attack the woman when something happens or when a break up happens. That was life, I went through it and I was strong enough to ignore all the negative comments and negative remarks that was made on me and attacks but I am just glad.”
“I know he’s (Iceberg) a very good person. For him to do this, I just pray that it helps with the healing he’s talking about. I’m glad that he came out and now everybody knows what happened.
When asked if she has forgiven Iceberg, she said:
“Oh I have, a long time ago”.
The presenter then chipped in that would she go back to him again? And here was Juliet’s answer:
“Oh how? no no no no”.
Then came the question if she still talks to him and again she answered:
“We speak yeah but we’re not like cool”.
